ABOUT CAPOEIRA
Capoeira is a physical game where players use complex movements to bait, fake, attack, defend and evade onE another within a 'roda' [circle].
Developed nearly 500 years ago in Brazil, this highly ritualized game of 'physical chess', plays out while other participants sing and play instruments to support the game and the energy. VISIT OUR CAPOEIRA history PAGE FOR MORE INFO

This class focuses on Capoeira 'Regional', a lineage of capoeira that began in the 1930's and continues to evolve today.
Training capoeira offers us ways to develop our spatial awareness, confidence, endurance, flexibility, strength, and coordination and also fosters community.

All classes will likely involve combinations of solo and partner-based training sequences, acrobatics, physical conditioning and the singing/learning of instruments and songs.
ABOUT THE TEACHER
MONITOR LEOPARDO
Jared Williams [Leopardo] was first exposed to Capoeira in 1997. He began training capoeira regional in earnest in 2002 with Mandingueiros dos Palmares under Mestre Chuvisco in Boston. He received his first 'Monitor' cord in 2008, and has been teaching since.
AS A TEACHER AND PLAYER LEOPARDO BELIEVES THAT ALL STUDENTS SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED TO WORK HARD AND FEEL MOTIVATED AND WORKS TO CULTIVATE A SENSE THAT THE LOVE, COMMUNITY AND DEDICATION TO CAPOEIRA IS PARAMOUNT.
Though his capoeira journey has been long and often winding, he is deeply grateful for the ways in which capoeira has informed his movement, his understanding of the world, and has brought him such a huge community of friends and family. Jared is also a visual artist [RISD 1995], a father, and director of the Field Center, a center for contemporary dance and performance practices in southern Vermont.
